Moderate AQI, High NO2 in Mid-Atlantic; Fires and Smoke in South

Today, AirNow reported moderate PM2.5 levels in the Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes Region throughout the day (top left). Moderate levels were also reached in California and northern Florida where one station reported unhealthy levels most probably due to fires in the region. Several states experienced moderate Ozone concentration during the afternoon from 2:00 to 6:00 pm as reported by AirNow (top right). A considerable plume of smoke was reported today by HMS due to the agricultural fires in central US. The plume extended from northern Mexico northeastward across Texas/Oklahoma/east Kansas/northwest Arkansas/and Missouri as it is being drawn into the storm system over the Central Plains. The bulk of this smoke is from fires that have been burning in northwest Mexico over the last days (bottom left). In addition, a plume of thin remnant smoke, probably mixed with other aerosols, was present over the eastern Gulf today along a frontal boundary (bottom left). Finally, today OMI product continue to report high NO2 concentrations over the Mid-Atlantic and part of the Great lakes region (bottom right).
