Fires and Smoke in Southern US; Moderate PM2.5 and Ozone levels

Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Today, PM2.5 and Ozone conditions are quite similar to those reported yesterday by Jaime. Moderate Ozone levels were reached in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and California as usual (top left). On the other hand, moderate PM2.5 levels were reported over the Great Lakes, Plain States and Northern part of Mid-Atlantic region (top right). HMS continues reporting fires in Central America and a huge smoke plumes mainly over Texas (bottom left). Remnant smoke, most likely from Mexico and Central America, continues to be seen in satellite imagery this evening. A large area of light smoke extending from eastern Texas to Louisiana moved northward until sunset. Additional fires burning in Louisiana may have contributed additional smoke (bottom right). Finally, an aerosol, most likely Asian dust, was visible on imagery this evening over California between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Several dense ribbons of this aerosol were also embedded within the larger area and all areas moved to the southeast.
