Combined air quality (PM2.5 and ozone) continued today to range between good and moderate levels throughout most of the country (top, left). Idaho and Montana were the only states to record code red. Ohio, Georgia and California also experienced code orange.
According to the HMS team, smoke (top, right), mainly from wildfires in Idaho, California,
and Wyoming, was still being observed from Oregon to the Great Lakes and also southward into the lower Mississippi Valley. Smoke was also observed across eastern Idaho and Wyoming due to the wildfires in the vicinity of those areas that were emitting lots of smoke. Most of the smoke across the northern half of the US continues to move eastward into Quebec. Also in Canada, smoke was observed across British Columbia and Alberta as well.
Below is the AOD retrieval from MODIS Terra over the US. Clouds were covering a large area but we can still see a pocket of high AOD over Idaho and Wyoming surrounding the fires' location. Hurricane Leslie can also be spotted in the bottom-right corner of the image.
