The weekend started with good to moderate levels of PM2.5 from Southern Texas all the way to the Northeast, along the East Coast. The air quality today improved in many regions along the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic/Northeast regions. The panel on the left shows the AIRNow AQI animation from yesterday, and the panel on the right side shows today's conditions.
The conditions in the Northwest stayed the same due to the ongoing wildfires. Moderate to unhealthy levels were observed throughout the weekend. MODIS Terra true color image and AOD retrievals over the region are shown below.
Code red was also observed in Northeastern Texas today.
A wet weather pattern is expected by the end of the week in the Southwest, according to The Weather Channel forecast. However, in the Northwest where most of the ongoing fires are located, no rain is expected.
Also in terms of weather, the first snow of the season was observed last Thursday and throughout this weekend in some cities of North and South Dakota, Colorado, Nebraska, Montana, Kansas and Minnesota.Posted by Patricia Sawamura at October 7, 2012 8:30 PM
