Moderate PM2.5 concentrations, AOD values (top left image, MODIS Aqua AOD) no greater than 0.4 were reported along the Ohio River Valley. The high AOD is due to the smoke/haze (top right image, MODIS Aqua RGB) that was present in the Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes region yesterday due to fire activity in this region. The rest of the country experienced Good air quality.
Lidar observations (bottom left image) show a homogeneous boundary layer that extended up to 1 km, with enhanced scattering near the surface in the first three hours of operation. Column size distribution retrievals from our Cimel sun photometer (bottom right image, data available at NASA/AERONET site) show the presence of fine particulate matter (radius in the range of 0.1-1 microns) aloft.
