Cold Front Along Nation Improves Air Quality

Moderate PM2.5 concentrations were recorded in California, along the Montana-Idaho stateline. Air quality for the rest of the nation was good as a cold front pushes through with cooler and drier conditions from west to east, with AOD values less than 0.1 recorded by the MODIS sensor in NASA Terra where clouds did not hindered its retrieval. Here in Baltimore PM2.5 concentrations were in the good range due to the cold front pushing through the region with strong and dry northwesterly winds, as seen below in the Maryland Department of the Environment wind profiler timeseries (located in Cambridge, MD). Column AOD retrievals at UMBC from our CIMEL suntophotometer show values no greater than 0.05.
