Light smoke over Gulf of Mexico and Central United States

NOAA HMS reported the presence of light smoke, as shown in the top left image, along the states of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas due to agricultural fires. As well smoke was present over the Gulf of Mexico as shown in the GASP AOD animation (top right image). The patches of smoke are clearly observed in MODIS Aqua RGB image along the Louisiana coast due to fires along the Louisiana and Texas. Column size distribution retrievals from the AERONET station at the University of Houston show coarse particle pollution, likely associated to the smoke plumes over the region. Air quality was good across the country with Moderate PM2.5 AQI levels reported in California, Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes states.
