Unhealthy PM2.5 in northeast Utah, Moderate AQI across the Pacific southwest and mid-atlantic

Poor air quality conditions continued early this morning across extreme portions of northeast Utah, peaking at Unhealthy (Code Red) AQI for PM2.5. Fortunately throughout the day conditions improved, with Good conditions by early evening (top left, courtesy AIRNow). The Mid-Atlatnic and portions of the Northeast states also experienced Moderate (Code Yellow) PM2.5 conditions (top right, courtesy AIRNow). Anticyclonic winds associated with an offshore High Pressure system juxtaposed to the mid-atlatnic coast pumped in copious amounts of moisture today across the region, creating overcast sky conditions for locations along the eastern seaboard (bottom left, courtesy NOAA HPC). The stratiform cloud decks were observed by the MODIS sensor aboard the Terra satellite, making it difficult to capture AOD retrievals (bottom right).
