Good air quality in most of the US; Moderate to Unhealthy air quality in Idaho and Utah

Good air quality was observed in most of the country today (top, left). The exceptions continue to be in the Western portion of the US. Northern Utah once again experienced moderate to unhealthy levels of PM2.5. And in fact, as of 7pm MST (top, right), AIRNow maps show a gradient of PM2.5 that goes from very unhealthy (Code Purple) to moderate in terms of ozone, which is rather exceptional for this time of the year. We will check back to make sure those readings were not due to a faulty instrument.

Clouds covered most of the US today, hindering satellite retrievals once again as can be seen in MODIS Aqua image below (bottom, left).

HMS team reported some fires that were producing thin to moderately dense smoke moving SE across coastal TX, LA, MS and AL (bottom, right).
