Looking at the NOAA HMS Fire and Smoke Product (left), a large amount of smoke stemming from the Rim and American wildfires in California is traveling into central Canada. The plume has also merged with wildfires in Idaho. The GASP East animation to the right shows that this smoke plume has created higher AODs in their wake. Also, there is plume of light smoke over the Atlantic Ocean off the shore of the Mid-Atlantic. Furthermore, a large group of fires can be seen with red dots on the HMS in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas, although no visible plumes are stemming from them.
Looking at the EPA AIRnow data, the wildfires have caused elevated AQIs, with the current high being Reno-Sparks at 177. Looking at the animation below, throughout the day the region surrounding the Rim and American wildfires reached very unhealthy levels (purple) as well. As these wildfires continue, the air quality for the area underneath this plume will be affected for the next couple of days.
