As shown in the image on the left, taken from the US EPA's AirNow Website, a band of moderate air quality was reported the southern states, lower Mississippi River Valley, and Texas. Moderate air quality was reported in California, in small patches throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. In the early afternoon, a patch of unhealthy for sensitive groups, then unhealthy air quality was reported over northern Georgia, and in central California.
The HMS image to the right shows a major smoke plume covering Texas and the lower Mississippi River Valley. Fires burn along the Mississippi River Valley, and throughout the South. Two large Smoke plumes were observed over Canada. In the western US, wild fires continue to burn in northern Idaho, southern Oregon, western Washington, and in California, with associated smoke plumes.
