Code Yellow PM2.5 AQI was reported along the Southeastern US, as shown in EPA's Airnow animation. The Naval Research Laboratory NAAPS model indicates that AOD retrievals over this region may have a string contribution of sulfate aerosols (top right image). Unfortunately the presence of clouds over this region hindered satellite observations. Code Orange concentrations were observed briefly in the vicinity of the Rim Fire. As reported over the weekend by Ray in his post, the Rim Fire has been contained. AOD retrievals from VIIRS indicate that the smoke might present over this region, with values of about 0.2. Burn scars from this fire (brown area in the bottom right image) can be seen as well in today's satellite observations.
