Looking at the NOAA HMS Smoke and Fire Product (top left), the small red dots indicate clumps of fires in the Southeast, Oregon, and Western Canada. Only a few small smoke plumes were seen in the Southeast, and the MODIS Terra satellite image (top right) verifies low AOD levels throughout the United States.
While MODIS and the HMS show good air quality, the EPA AIRNow combined AQI loop (bottom left) shows Unhealthy AQIs along the West Coast as well as moderate AQIs in small patches across the United States. Most of this is due to PM2.5, and the elevated NO2 concentration in the West the last few days could also affect the AQI. The area with the highest AQI today was around Los Angeles, with Metro Riverside County and San Bernardino having values of 164 and 154, respectively.
