Weekend Edition: Still Code Red in the San Joaquin Valley

The Air Quality in the California central valley continues to be problematic. Code Reds are seen for much of the day today and the right image shows the widespread haze as seen from space. Below these images the Bakersfield and Visalia PM2.5 readings are shown and they reached a very serious 110 µg m-3 overnight on Friday/Saturday.

Update January 5, 2013 18:00 EST

Some spectacular fire plumes are seen today in Oregon (left below) and Northern California (right below, and below). This are unlikely to be lightning initiated events so people are just not being careful.

These incidents don't show up on the USFS wildfire site.
