Elevated PM2.5 and Red Flag Warning in Pacific Southwest

PM 2.5 levels were elevated in the Pacific Northwest/Southwest and parts of the Northeast today, peaking in Southern California and western Pennsylvania in the Code Orange, Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range (bottom left). Due to strong offshore winds along the southern West coast, the National Weather Service warned for warm, dry and windy conditions to settle in across the region through mid-week, raising the threat of fire weather (top right).Blowing dust in the Pacific Southwest that Ray mentioned this weekend is now being observed by the NAAPS aerosol model, which indicates a small region of dust southeast of Albuquerque, NM (bottom left). Although skies were clear across this area, there are no indicates of elevated aerosol optical depth out west (bottom right).
