Scattered areas of Moderate AQI in the Southeast and Mississippi Valley Regions

There are scattered areas of Moderate AQI in the Southeast and Mississippi Valley regions, with some additional isolated patches of Moderate AQI in the Pacific Southwest and Mid-Atlantic, as seen in the EPA Airnow loop below on the left. The elevated AQI in the Southeast correlates well with the areas of fire and smoke in the same region shown in the HMS analysis on the right.















Fortunately, the areas highlighted by the NWS fire weather outlook as being especially conducive to fires are in the Pacific Southwest.







Output from the NRL NAAPS model below on the left indicates elevated dust levels over the plains states. This is supported by elevated AOD in this area, shown in GOES imagery below right.
