Smoke from Agricultural Fires in Florida, Moderate PM2.5 AQI Levels in the Southeastern United States

NOAA's Hazard Mapping System Fire and Smoke Product reported the presence of smoke in western Florida. The smoke is from agricultural burns taking place near Lake Okeechobee. The smoke is visible in today's NASA's MODIS rgb image, with fire locations indicated in red. The smoke is yielding AOD values in the range of 0.3 to 0.6 (turquoise to yellow colors in the right image) as recorded by the MODIS sensor in the Aqua satellite. Smoke from agricultural fires in Oklahoma were also observed (bottom left image).

Airnow PM2.5 AQI animation shows Moderate PM2.5 AQI levels in California, east of the Plains States, south and southeastern United States. Code Red and Orange PM2.5 AQI levels were experienced in Arizona/New Mexico, as well.
