Light Smoke Over Florida

The overall air quality for the nation today was good, with the biggest area of concern being in Florida. As can be seen in the NASA AOD image (left), the state and its surrounding waters had low to moderate levels of particulate matter (light orange). This is due to some light smoke detected and shown by the NOAA HMS Team in the smoke product image (right). According to the NOAA HMS Analysis Team, this smoke is a result of agricultural fires near Lake Okeechobee. Heavy cloud coverage makes it difficult to get the fires' exact locations.
The NASA AOD image (left) also shows some light aerosol concentration (light orange) over the Midwestern states. The cause for this is unknown.
