SMOKE AND DUST IN SOUTHERN US

AirNow's AQI map (top left) shows mostly good air quality throughout the nation, the only exception is a little bit of code orange in New Mexico and Maine. Light density smoke plumes are caused by prescribed burns in East Texas and West Mississippi (HMS, top right). Dust is also blowing in this area, originating from several areas: Wilcox Playa (Arizona), The White Sands (New Mexico), and Chihuahua (Mexico). This dust is visible on the VIIRS image (bottom). This dust, as well as the smoke mention before, are moving North.
