Today we see a fair amount of combined PM and Ozone concentration across the states as depicted in the AirNow image below (top left). Fires in Collier and Hernando Counties both produced light to dense smoke that travelled west into Gulf of Mexico (HMS, top right). Fires along the Gulf Coast States, including states between Texas to Georgia, produced moderately dense smoke that both traveled North and West towards the Gulf of Mexico (HMS, top right). In the Plain states, we observed a concentrated area of fires that produced local moderately dense smoke, however, due to heavy cloud coverage, collecting data on the full extent of the smoke could not be detected as seen in the VIIRS CONUS image below (bottom left). In the Copernicus image below (bottom right), we see a moderately concentrated amount of dust moving Northeast across the Plain States due to strong winds blowing over this area (unknown origin of the dust).
