Alaskan Smoke Travels to Plain States

The AirNow PM AQI image shows mostly good Air Quality Index on Sunday, but with code orange (unhealthy for sensitive groups) being present in New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah, and code red (unhealthy) in Arizona. Surface ozone AQI reached code red in Southern California shown by the AirNow Ozone AQI image (top right). Saturday had a lot of remnant as well as actively produced smoke shown by the HMS image in the middle. The Brian Head fire, still active in southern Utah, has burned over 42,000 acres and the smoke produced is so dense, it's visible in the NASA WorldView image (bottom left). Also, the smoke has a clear effect on aerosol optical depth, show by the AOD layer of NASA WorldView (bottom right). In addition, remnant smoke, thought to have traveled from wildfires in Alaska, Yukon, and Northwest Territories is seen blowing above the Northern Plain states.
